Free Bible Story on Prayer

Luke 18:1-8

Prayer is talking to God and Jesus wants us to talk to Him about everything. He wants to be our best Friend. God always hears our prayers even though sometimes when we pray to God, it seems like nothing happens. It may feel as though He is not listening, that is not true. God always hears us. Sometimes, though, His answer to our prayers is to wait. It is hard to keep on praying during those times. But that is exactly what Jesus wants us to do. He told this story to teach His followers that they should keep on praying and never give up, no matter what.

“There once was a bad judge who was not afraid of anyone. One day a poor woman asked him for help against someone who was trying to cheat her. At first the judge ignored her, but she had nowhere else to turn so again and again she begged this judge to help her until he agreed. If this is how a bad judge acts, think how God will listen to you. He is full of love and always willing to help people.”

When a mother or a father moves out, many children feel as though it is their fault, it isn’t. They shouldn’t blame themselves. Sometimes mothers and fathers choose not to live together. There can be many reasons for this happening, but the children are never to blame. Jesus knows that divorce can hurt people; He also knows there are times when a husband and a wife don’t want to live together. When Jesus walked the earth one of the Pharisees asked Him. “Can a man divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

Jesus did not like the question. He said that God brought men and women together so the two of them could be joined together and become one. God did not want husbands and wives to break apart. The religious leaders asked why the rules said it was all right to divorce.

Jesus said. “Because of your hard and stubborn hearts, you were allowed to leave your wives! But that is not how God wanted it to be. When a man and woman choose to marry, they are supposed to stay together until death.”

When Jesus’ disciples heard this they said. “But if that’s the way it is then sometimes it must be better not to marry at all!”

Jesus said. “You’re right. Not everyone needs to get married. A marriage that lasts a lifetime is truly a gift from God.”

Jesus was trying to protect families. And in protecting the family, He was taking care of the children. They came running back into their arms. The disciples looked on and joined in the fun. They even smiled. Better than anyone else, the children knew what Jesus meant when He said. “Come to Me.”
