Jesus Before Pontius Pilate Story

Jesus Before Pontius Pilate Story

The religious leaders were trying to prove Jesus had broken the Law. They even paid people to lie about Jesus. The high priest asked. “Tell us in the name of the living God if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”

“Yes, I am.” Jesus said. “One day all of you will see me sitting on a throne next to God.”

“He says He’s God, that’s against the Law!”

“Kill Him! Kill Him!” They struck Jesus and spat in His face, then, together with the soldiers they beat Him up.

When the sun rose, the religious leaders took Him to the governor. This was a man named Pontius Pilate.

“What has He done?” Pilate asked the religious leaders.

They lied to Pilate. “This man makes the Jews fight against the Romans, He says He’s a king.”

“Are You the King of the Jews?” Pilate asked Jesus.

“If that’s what you think,” Jesus said, “but my kingdom is not of this world. If it were here, my followers would fight for me. Yes, I am a king. I came to bring truth to the world and everyone who loves the truth is My follower.”

This gave Pilate something to think about. “Don’t You hear the terrible things they say about You?”

Jesus did not say a word.

Pilate was amazed. He said.”I can’t find any reason to have this man killed, He hasn’t done anything wrong.”

The religious leaders said. “He’s come all the way from Galilee just to cause trouble.”

“What did you say?” Pilate asked the religious leaders. “Did you say this man was from Galilee?”

“If that’s right, then He should be judged by Herod, he’s in charge of that area, not me.”

Pilate did not want to have anything to do with Jesus. “He’s done nothing wrong.” He told himself as he watched the guards take Jesus to Herod.

It just so happened that Herod was in Jerusalem at that time to see the Passover festival. When Herod saw Jesus, he was very pleased for he had wanted to meet the strange man everyone was talking about.

“Maybe He will even work some miracles.” Herod thought.

Herod was disappointed. He asked Jesus many questions but Jesus gave him no answers. The religious leaders stood there the whole time, yelling and shouting at Jesus.

“He’s a dangerous criminal!”

“He calls Himself the Messiah, you should kill Him!”

Herod grew tired of Jesus’ silence so he and his soldiers joined the religious leaders. They made fun of Jesus. They dressed Him in a long robe and sneered. “Ha ha! A fine king You would make now!”

“Send this fool back to Pilate!”Herod ordered. “Stop wasting my time, get Him out of here!”

So Jesus returned to Pilate. It was very strange because before that day, Pilate and Herod had been enemies. They were two Romans, fighting each other for more power but after they both saw Jesus, they became the best of friends.
